Accomodation
As mentioned elsewhere, Canberra’s annual Floriade creates its peak tourist season, from mid
September to mid October, which means that accommodation is both scarce and expensive during early
October, but good bargains can still be secured. In addition to Canberra, there are a number of
nearby towns and villages that offer good accommodation at reasonable rates.
Please refer to this map of the region which provides the location of the events in relationship to Canberra
and nearby places.

Meals
In addition to the normal range of restaurants, cafes, fast food outlets, etc, the ACT and NSW
also have licensed clubs that welcome visitors and provide good meals at reasonable rates. The cost
of meals is subsidised by profits from poker (slot) machines. OACT recommends one of the venues of
the Canberra Southern Cross Club. The Club sponsored
Orienteering in the ACT for over 10 years.
